February 23, 2010: The Rally held Sunday was a huge sucess. There was 110 entrants. Top hand went to Clifford MacDonald winning a new snowmobile suit. Second place went to Norma MacCara winning a new Snowmobile jacket and 3rd place went to Glenda DeBrun who got a new helmet. Floyd Cock won the 50/50. Many door prizes were drawn for as well. The breakfast was very well received with alot of non-snowmobilers taking the oppurtunity to support the club and have a good eat as well. The groomer operators went well into the night to prep the 65 mile route. Mild temps led to the trails being soft and therefore getting beat up relatively quickly but overall conditions were very good with more than enough snow. It was very nice to see Steve McLelan, president of SANS, on hand to run the rally the rally route and socialize with the club members. Many thanks to all the volunteers that organized and ran the rally, the volunteer kitchen staff that cooked a fabulous breakfast and the grooming crew for putting in an exception effort Saturday to make the trails as good as possible. Thanks to all the sponsers for providing the prizes and supplies for the breakfast and thanks to all the participants for coming out on a day when the weather was questionable to support DMSC!

January 31, 2010: Just to address any questions on the windfarm: Certain weather conditions can cause an ice build up on the towers and the blades that may fall off or get thrown off during normal operation. Reuban Burge of RMS Energy, the owner of the Dalhousie Mountain Windfarm had a chunk of ice the size of a coconut thrown off and hit his truck causing damage. His recommendation is to stay back a distance equal to the height of the towers just in case. The roads do not interfere with the operation of the trail system in anyway. Any areas where the trails intersect the roads are clearly marked. He has no problems with snowmobiles on the roads but be aware there could be maintenance vehicles on the roads at any time. He purchased a new grader that wings the banks flat on the sides of the road which helps for grooming where the trail may run along the road. All power pole guide wires have protective yellow coverings on them and they do not interfer with the trails whatsoever but I have seen alot of tracks running off trail very close to the guide wires, be careful.
